Web Identity

Your web identity should clearly project an image consistent with your business objectives.

Consider the following:

  • Company name: It's easy to change this so if you are setting out on the web and feel your registered company name is outdated, why not change this companies house.
  • Domain name: If you plan to trade solely in the UK then choose a '.co.uk' domain name. If you plan to trade globally choose a '.com' as well. It's a good idea to register your company name before you register your company name as there are scammers out there that will register your name and then try to sell it on to you at a huge markup.
  • Logo: Your logo should work well across all mediums. Visualise your logo on stationary, vehicle livery printed media and of course on screen. Keep it simple and check it will scale down in size and still be recognisable.
  • Colours: Pick a scheme of complimenting colours that differentiate from your main competitors. Also consider the impression some colours may project, e.g. red (aggressive), green (nature), pale blue (pure).
  • Stapline: A phrase of sentence that can be used alongside your logo to drive home your message. This will often be your USP (unique selling point)
  • Content: What information do you want to present online? Look at your website from your audiences perspective, not your internal perspective. Conduct some research before you start. The easiest way to do some research is to ask your existing customers what they want from your website.

Bring it all together! The fusion those elements above combined with a carefully designed website layout and data structure will make your website intuitive and increase it's long term success.
